Just Courage is another inspiring book by Gary Haugen, president of International Justice Mission. He states, “Nothing presents a more compelling and authentic witness of Christian faith in this era than the struggle for justice.” This book is a call to have courage, join the battle for justice, and follow Jesus by helping those in need. This book has encouraged me to do something in this “struggle for justice.” So here I am, out of my comfort zone, writing this blog, when I find it difficult to even put my thoughts into words. But I hope that through this, more people will become aware of slavery and do something to help end it.
I don’t enjoy writing about modern-day slavery. It is dark, dreadful, awful, wrong, heartless, wicked, and evil. I’d rather not even think about it. But I can’t not think about it. Now that I know about this extremely cruel oppression and injustice, I have to say something about it. People need to know that others are suffering so terribly under the hands of oppressors. They need help. They need to be rescued. They need to be cared for. They need to know about Jesus. As Christians, we have a responsibility to have compassion on these people. Jesus said that whatever you did for the least of these you did for me and whatever you did not do for the least of these you did not do for me (see Matthew 25:31-46). Will you take courage and join the struggle for justice?
“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8
