“Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause” (Isaiah 1:17).
This is the most challenging group of songs I have ever encountered. Beautiful and haunting in many cases. to the point and in your face at others – this collection of songs should certainly generate much support for the mission of the International Justice Mission. It makes it difficult to go to my comfortable existence and feel soul comfort. Definitely spurring me to life changing action.
Really great cause and a very good compilation of some great artists. It’s a win – win… Love it!!!
The Freedom CD is amazing!
Phillip LaRue’s “Window” is one of the most heart-wrenching songs I’ve ever heard. If there is one song that will solidify this cause for you, listen to this one.
Thanks so much for your comments! I’m so sorry it took me so long to approve them!
Most of these songs bring home the reality of what we consider trials are truly trivial inconveniences. Christ calls us past what is convenient and tolerable to face evil- ugly and unjust. I cannot be at rest with being a ‘prisoner of my comfort and a slave to my own fear’ (P,C,D album) when there are children whose only life has been of pain, abuse and neglect (Window) . IJM and these artists make that clear.
The song that speaks most to this ?–Instead of a Show- Jon Foreman Christ HATES our sin- our show of piety and righteousness when we are not moved with compassion.
Great thoughts and reminders. Thanks for your comment Kacy!
I won’t buy this without hearing it. Why isn’t there a sample anywhere?
Sorry, but I don’t know why there isn’t a sample.
Well, possibly because the CD costs only $5 at Family Bookstore, and maybe for the fact that it is music written for a cause and the minimal $5 purchase is all directed to IJM. With such a variety of artists, a sample wouldn’t help anyway- Natalie Grant is so different from Sixpence, who is so different from Jon Forman, The Washington Project, etc…. there is one song each of many different artists and no one could represent the CD. I encourage you to make the purchase for the cause and for the message that it brings through all these different artsist- some you will like and some you may not- but the message is about the oppression that exists ‘in the least of these’.
Thanks for your comment Kacy. I was thinking the same thing :).
This CD completely broke me. I sobbed in the car. I will never be the same. Thank you for this post on it I wanted to share it on my facebook page and this gave me a way.
How can I get my hands on this CD? I heard it is amazing?
I don’t know what is going on with this CD. It looks like it’s either not available anymore, or out of stock. Sorry!
It’s available at Family Christian Stores…just bought one 2 days ago.
Thanks Michelle. I commented (below) that I spoke with Family Christian Stores customer service, and they said that you can still buy the CD in the stores, just not online. Glad you were able to get one :).
Does anyone know where I can get this?
So sorry, I’m not sure what to tell you :(. It looks like it’s either not available anymore or maybe it’s just out of stock.
I called Family Christian Stores customer service and found out that they are no longer selling this CD online, but various stores still have it in stock. So check your local Family Christian Stores if you’d like to buy this CD.
