oh how wonderful! I knew about half of these but yey! It’s great you posted this list because i’m running low on human trafficking books to read (I’ve read 30 so far). Although in reality I wish I didn’t have any to read since it would be better that slavery didn’t exist. :: sigh :: I’m glad though that it is gaining more exposure and awareness finally. I still think not enough though!
by the way, you can add to this list: Dirty Girls Come Clean by Crystal Renaud
oh and Traveling Light by J.L. Morin (which comes out May 1st). Those two books were on my to-read list, so I thought I’d let you know about them!
Thanks so much for your comments, Victoria!! I’m so glad the list is helpful :). And thanks for these other recommendations! I’ll check them out! Do you have some favorites? What would be your top five/ten books on slavery/human trafficking? I’d love to know what others you’ve read that you really found helpful.
Well my favorites are probably the most common and ones you’ve probably read. Here’s my top 15 (because a lot of the other ones I’ve read were kinda boring – such as Nobodies or Woman, Child For Sale), far too long (such as William Wilberforce: The Life of the Great Anti-Slave Trade Campaigner which I know you reviewed), or sometimes made it seem like slavery was liked by the girls – like The Blue Notebook which was excellent but a little too erotic), or mediocre ones like (Enslaved and Blood Ransom)
[These are in order of how much I liked them]
1. Not For Sale by David Batstone
2. The Good News About Injustice by Gary Haugen”
3. The Sacred Bath by Theresa Flores (although I think she re-released it with a different title since I read it 3+ years ago)
4. Beyond the Soiled Curtain by David Grant (which you reviewed I think which is how I heard of it, so thank you!!)
5. The Natashas by Victor Malarek
6. The Road of Lost Innocence by Somaly Mam
7. Slave Hunter by Aaron Cohen
8. Sold by Patricia McCormick
9. Terrify No More by Gary Haugen
10. A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah
11. Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Jacobs
12. Ending Slavery by Kevin Bales
13. Be The Change by Zach Hunter
14. Just Courage by Gary Haugen
15. Selling Olga by Louisa Waugh
Other books that have instances of slavery through mind control and genocide and child soldiers and forced marriage issues that I adored!!!!: Left To Tell: Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust by Immaculee Ilibagiza (Christ-based), The Tears of My Soul: The Story of a Boy Who Survived the Cambodian Killing Fields by Sokreaksa S. Himm (this is Christ-based), and I Am Nujood, Age 10 and Divorced by Nujood Ali
Great list! Many excellent books! Thanks so much :). Have you read “From Congress to the Brothel” and “Renting Lacy” by Linda Smith of Shared Hope International?
I’ve had Renting Lacy on my list for maybe 2 years but haven’t read it yet. I had never heard of From Congress to the Brothel! Thanks for letting me know. I’d love to know so many more!! I have a few I’ve been wanting to read for a while like Escaping The Devil’s Bedroom, The Johns, Prostitution and Trafficking in Nevada, The Sexual trafficking in Children, Forbidden Workers: Illegal Chinese Immigrants and American Labor, Priceless, Slave by Mende Nazer, Child Prostitution in Thailand: Listening to Rahab, Smuggling and Trafficking in Human Beings: All Roads Lead to America, Stop the Traffik by Cherie Blair, Passport Through Darkness, Truth Behind the Fantasy of Porn: The Greatest Illusion on Earth by Shelley Lubben, The Slave Next Door: Human Trafficking and Slavery in America Today by Kevin Bales
I’ve read some of those and some are also on my “to read” list. Here are ones from your “to read” list that I’ve read and wrote about…

A few others that I’ve seen but haven’t read are: “Free at Last” and “Prayer Warriors: Demon Slayers” by Dawn E. Worswick; and “Souled Out” by Tania Fiolleau. Have you heard of them?
