Stop Child Trafficking Now

Statistics say that every two minutes a child is sold into slavery for sexual exploitation.  I’ve also read it the opposite way, that two children are trafficked every minute.  Either way, that is a staggering and tragic statistic.  Approximately 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders each year.  80 percent of these victims are women and girls and 50 percent are children.  300,000 children in the U.S. are at risk of sexual exploitation every year.  Click here for these and more human trafficking statistics.

Here are some statistics about trafficking in America from an article in The Huffington Post just a couple days ago.  “Over 100,000 children in the United States are currently exploited through commercial sex. Although it is hard to believe, the average age of first exploitation is 12-13. We can no longer ignore that American children in our country are being so horrifically exploited for economic gain.”  “Every year more than 2 million children are trafficked world-wide.”

These statistics are heartbreaking and devastating.  There shouldn’t even be statistics about this.  Children are not and should not be for sale.  They should not be forced to do unspeakable things and have unspeakable things done to them.

Stop Child Trafficking Now is an organization that is working to put an end to these statistics.  Their philosophy is to focus on the demand side of child trafficking “by targeting child predators for prosecution and conviction.”  By stopping the demand, child trafficking can be stopped.
